Contour Sculptures
Each sculpture is constructed from a single coil of 2mm copper wire, wrapped in 0.5 mm darker copper wire to create dimension and texture. The sculptures are a play on blind contour drawings where the artist draws the subject without looking at their paper, keeping the pencil on the paper at all time. This process lends to appreciate features that stand out most of a subject, as well as subconsiously creates a unique character perceived by the artist.
A contour sculpture brings a blind contour drawing to life. One can now see it from all angles, and view an abstraction of perspective, form and structure. The play of light and shadow allows one to view the wire forms on one plane, almost reversing the process and taking the sculpture back to a drawing form.
